WHAT IS A BOOK?
A book is a document that you read (as opposed to watching or
viewing) which aims to present a particular thesis, idea or
argument to a particular readership or audience.
A book is generally still thought of as a document that is
printed on paper and bound into an individualized presentation.
However, online books and e-books are increasing in popularity.
Printed books have a security advantage -- there is only the
one copy you are reading and this reduces the tendency for
copying and re-use.
Printed books give a sense of intimacy and privacy to the
reader, which is ironic in that when multiple copies of a book
are distributed an idea is spread rather widely (and sometimes
quite quickly).

Reasons that
people write books.
Book writing and production is a lot of work. Why do
people do it?
TYPE-A PERSONALITY: Some people love books so much they want
to create one.
EXPRESSIVE: Some people have had such a profound or
interesting experience that they want to share it.
TEACHING-COMPULSIVE: Some people are born teachers and really
excel at compiling their thoughts in an organized manner with
the goal of imparting a body of knowledge.
HEALING: Some people have lost loved ones or undergone traumatic
experiences; by sharing their story they heal themselves and
others.
EGO: Famous athletes and the rags to riches stories are
usually popular. People who accomplish great things in
business or their own personal lives are interesting -- they
want to tell their tale and people want to know about it.
HELPFUL: Some people are genuinely helpful and wish to
show others the ropes in a wide range of how-to books.
THOUGHTFUL: Natural-born thinkers spend years in their
heads then come out with some amazing new ideas. Leading-edge
thinkers and 'first-adopter' personality types love these sorts
of books.
PRODUCERS: Some people love to see an idea become manifested
into reality.
