The
words and what they say are so important. Be sure this is
ready first (good writing, well edited, and properly formatted
for print presentation), before starting on the formatting of
the cover design.

Cover Design
Art,
attractiveness and catchy wording on a book cover will produce
sales!
Cover design should properly represent your book (both text
and graphics) and call to your intended readership.
While the message content of your book is why you wrote it in
the first place, good cover design will sell your book to more
people than your manuscript (without formatting and a great cover)
ever would.
Cover Design Considerations
Establish credibility: Does the cover design create interest? Does it appear to be professionally crafted?
Incorporate the book’s theme: Does the book cover design
effectively convey the authors message and style? Will it appeal
to the author’s target market?
Designed with creativity and originality: Is the book cover
design interesting? Is it tasteful? Does the design fall in step
with current or leading-edge trends? |

Why Spend More on
a Good Cover Design:
Book covers really do matter.
Readers
look at the front cover and the back cover and then quickly
make buying decisions.
Reviewers can only review a few books
each week, and naturally tend to select book covers that appear to be the
most interesting.
Your book cover must survive "the glance
test" for both reviewers and book buyers!
The Extra Mile for the Back Cover
Back covers are the best chance to sell your book. Adding
testimonials, quotations or commentaries help sell books because
word-of-mouth is one of the most powerful forces in marketing.
When readers see quotation marks, not just language from the
author, they become more receptive to the worth of your book. Of
course, it also helps if buyers can see who you are; a photo of
yourself (and perhaps a brief bio) are good options. |
